Category : Great Deals, Great Products

What essentials do you ALWAYS take with you on every ride? A screwdriver? Helmet? Rain gear? Suspension Pump? All these are good ideas, but what about one of the most important things – Tools. Now of course we all hope we never have a break down, but the reality is at some point we all will need a tool /tools of some sort in our time on the road. Shifter peg loosens up, sissy bar pad starts to jiggle, mirror spins, any one of a million things is a great reason to carry some tools on your bike. At K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) we offer many different tool kits to cover your needs. Some bikes have special tools needed for simple repairs and many of these rider tool kits are year and model specific to ensure you get the right tools for your bike. Most of these kits come in handy roll pouches to minimize their foot print, yet keep them all together. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to avoid those costly tow bills or help a buddy back on the road?   At K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) we deliver more grins per gear.

Customize It – That 1st Step

Category : Great Products

Have you ever wanted your bike to stand out from the crowd? Do you want your bike to be different from the others? Customize it! It’s time to start adding accessories to make your bike unique. We tend to favor function over form to begin with, so the first choice of modification is a part that “works” on the bike. An easy way to start your customization is replacing your foot pegs or floorboards. Many of today’s replacements are available in a wide variety of styles and shapes that are sure to catch your eye. K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) has a great selection of designs available to choose from. Cruisers to touring bikes this is an easy upgrade that won’t take much time and is fairly simple to complete. Knowing most people fall into “The Potato Chip Syndrome” (they just can’t stop accessorizing after the first one) many of the manufacturers today offer a long list of accessories that are the same theme/style. Usually hand grips, shifter pegs, brake pedals, shifter linkages, mirrors, miscellaneous trim pieces, and even some medallions are available in group styles/themes. So if you are looking to take that first step, and turn your bike into the show stopper it should be, contact K and G cycles(www.kandgcycles.com) to help you make the transformation.

Clean Air, we All Deserve It

Category : Great Products

This dry, hot, dusty weather that most of us have been dealing with can be just as hard on our bikes. One thing we need to check a little more is our air filter. Not only does the air filter stop a lot of dirt and grime, it also catches some vented oil that is being evacuated by the crankcase vents. On average a paper air filter will run you $25.00 or more, so it might be time to consider a K&N filter from K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) . The K & N line up of filters allow you to clean your filter when it becomes soiled, up to “A Million Miles” as their warranty states. Not only do these filters offer the convenience of virtually never having to buy another filter again, they deliver increased airflow to the engine, resulting in increased power and fuel economy. K & N offers filters to fit most applications, with some starting as low as $52.00, a real money saver. Clean your filter a few times and it’s paid for itself. Check out K and G Cycles(www.kandgcycles.com) to see the large selection and determine the filter that’s right for you.

I’m Exhausted with this Subject

Category : Great Products

I’m exhausted with this subject, there are way too many selections out there!! Trying to figure out which exhaust I want to purchase to upgrade my stock system is a nightmare. Today there are many quality offerings to choose from giving us the option of replacing just the mufflers to installing a custom system. In many cases slip ons(replacement mufflers) are a great choice for most of us because all we have to do is bolt them on and go, no tuning required. Another option available is to replace the entire exhaust system for a custom look and sound, be aware there is usually more work involved whether its tuning the ECM or jetting the carb and sometimes that requires a dyno to get it right. . K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) carries a wide selection of both set ups from many of the trusted names in the industry. Whether you are looking for the classic look of chrome or the sinister look of the black finish, many of today’s manufacturers offer their products in both finishes. Mild to Wild, Mellow to Obnoxious, Efficiency to Pure Performance, whatever you are wanting from your exhaust, K and G Cycles(www.kandgcycles.com) can make it happen before your search leaves you exhausted.

Can You see the Light – Lighting Upgrades

Category : Great Products

There is nothing worse than having a close call while riding and someone saying, “I didn’t see you” or not being able to see the wildlife in time. Let’s face it the stock lighting on most motorcycles is marginal at best. You have some options to improve the lighting on the front and rear of your bike to increase your visibility for yourself and others. K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com) has your lighting upgrades available in  LED replacement bulbs, Run/Turn/Brake Modules, and Auxiliary lighting.

Adding a Run/Turn/Brake module to your bike will give you 2 more brake lights and 2 extra running lights via your turn signals. All while maintaining your turn signal function. The difference is sure to get you noticed. Just add your pick of red lenses and the rear end is complete. Focusing on the front end, there are a few choices to give you more and better lighting. Upgrading headlamp bulbs is a great way to increase visibility, and installing spot lamps will give you a broader field of vision. Front turn signal bulbs can also be upgraded giving you one more reason to be seen.

Green Battery with a Two Year Warranty

Category : Great Products

Have you ever had a day that you’ve gotten off work early, stepped outside and noticed it was 82 degrees, sunny, and it was only 1:30pm on Friday. Sounds like a great start to a great ride. Well it could have been if the battery on your motorcycle wasn’t dead.  You call your local dealership and find out an OEM replacement battery will set you back around $170 plus tax, and only comes with a 1 year warranty.  Before buying your next motorcycle battery, why not check out some of the great batteries from Earth-X that are offered here at K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com).   I am sure, like us, you will be surprised to discover a Lithium battery that offers more features and benefits, along with an industry leading warranty.

Earth-X Lithium batteries come with a 2 year non-prorated warranty. That is 1 year (another riding season) longer than the competitors. They offer approximately 70%-80% weight reduction over your traditional lead acid/AGM battery, extreme temperature operating range, and a LONG service life of roughly 2000 charge/discharge cycles. In addition these batteries offer a longer storage life so in the off season they don’t need to be charged. If you do discharge them, they only need about an hour to fully recharge. Lithium batteries need to have each cell monitored, balanced, and charged, and most manufacturers require you to purchase a separate balancing charger that you have to plug in to do this. Earth-X has an onboard microprocessor management system that handles all that. The system monitors each cell, balances the charge, and keeps the cells from overcharging or over dis-charging. This keeps your battery more stable, giving you longer battery life, even more cranking power. Even with all that inner technical wizardry going on, they are environmentally friendly.

So in comparison, the competitors OEM replacement is $170 plus tax with a 1 year warranty, and requires constant monitoring, while the Earth-X replacement with a 2 year warranty is only $239, comes with the onboard management system, shaves weight, and is “Green”. If you are looking to replace or upgrade your battery, an Earth-X Lithium battery from K and G Cycles (www.kandgcycles.com)  is an excellent choice that is light on weight, heavy on features, is tough enough to offer twice the warranty, and doesn’t require add on purchases.

Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association: Chapter 14-1

Category : Fun Stuff

Interested in joining a motorcycle association? Rich “Diesel” Gregory, the public relations officer for the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 14-1, answered the basics for us about how this awesome groups works. Thanks again for your time and answers, CVMA!

  1. The Combat Vets Motorcycle Association has been active many years, can you tell me how the club started and with what purpose or goal in mind?
Our Motorcycle Association originally started about the middle of 2001, with our State starting its first chapter around the early part of 2006.  Since then we had another chapter form which was later dissolved and the members added back to the original chapter.  And recently around the beginning of this year Indiana 14 split into 14-1 and 14-2.
  2. How many active chapters are there currently?
We have a little more than a 100 chapters nationally with all 50 states having a chapter.  These chapters are comprised of Full Members, some still actively serving in the military, (verified combat service) Support (veterans with out combat service but still a desire to help veterans) and Auxiliary (spouses members of full members). Indiana, our state, currently has two chapters 14-1 and 14-2.
  3. Do you need to be directly involved in the military to be a member? If so, are there any ways for supporters to get involved or contribute to your events?
To join our Association as a full member you must be a veteran with verified combat service.  Support members can join if they are veterans with out combat service and a sincere desire to help veterans.  Our support membership however can only be 10% of our Full membership.  Both Full and Support members must own a motorcycle of 500cc or more.  Auxiliary are spouses of full members in good standing.  Other ways to help our mission is just to support our rides or events which usually raise money for veterans causes, like our Kokomo run later this year in Indiana raising money for HVAF.
  4. What types of charitable events does your club focus on?
Our Association does lots of different events across the country- mostly benefiting Veterans of Veterans assistance organizations.  The events usually feature some sort of ride with a social time afterwards where there may also be raffles, auctions, or drawings to raise additional funds for the charity selected.
In Indiana, September 15 is our Kokomo run which will be a dice run this year during the Howard County Vietnam Veterans reunion. It will help support HVAF.  The flyer for this event can be found at this link.   http://in.combatvet.org/kokomoflyer.html  Find more events at our national site: www.combatvet.org.
  5. Are there any misconceptions about your club or military motorcycle clubs in general that you’d like to clear up?
In the motorcycle community I haven’t had too many misconceptions.  Most of the time it comes from cagers who don’t understand the difference between MC, MA, RC, etc… They see a patch on your back and assume your a 1%er.  Which we are not, we are a Motorcycle Association. We do not have mandatory rides or events, probate periods, or claim territory.  We are an Association of Combat Veterans who enjoy motorcycling as a hobby.
  6. How could someone go about looking for a chapter in their area?
To try and find a chapter in your state or area, check www.combatvet.org. This is our national website, which will also give you the info you will need to get into contact with your state’s rep and get into the association.  To try and start your own chapter, you would have to have 15 Full members in good standing with the CVMA and submit their application to the State Representative or to the National Board of Directors if there is no State Representative available.
  7. What do you like most about being part of this club?
I like this association for the common bond we all share through combat. Every story is different, but they all share a common thread.  Brothers and Sisters don’t question why you act like you do, they just accept ya.  I also like the fact we do not have mandatory events- my family comes first and then everything else.  Not having anything mandated makes it easier to balance both.  Most people don’t join something to not participate anyhow, but here you can just be as involved as much as you want.
  8. Do you participate in events with other military motorcycle clubs?
We try to participate in many other organizations’ events that support good causes, but obviously our main cause is Veterans and helping them.  Some of our members are also members of other groups such as American Legion Riders, Patriot Gaurd, and so on.

A Popular Alternative

Category : Fun Stuff

Two wheels represent freedom for many motorcyclists. Riders of all ages appreciate the feeling of individualism, while still belonging to a very select group. There have been many changes in the biker culture as times have changed over the years, including the idea that motorcycles stop at two wheels. What changes a diehard motorcycle rider into a trike rider? Some attribute the shift to three wheels to the aging process. Some riders find it difficult to balance their motorcycle after joints weaken or injuries occur. Not wanting to give up riding altogether, they turn to three wheels and head back out onto the open roads. There are several manufacturers who offer conversion kits capable of turning a two wheeler into a trike. Kool Trikes owner, Randy Butler, said that vertigo kept him off of two wheels. Whatever the cause of the increase in popularity, trikes seems to be here to stay. Have you ever ridden on a trike? We want to hear your opinion! Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

Women Riders

Category : Fun Stuff

The numbers are in and the amount of women riders are on the rise. According to the American Motorcyclist Association, the percentage of women riders belonging to the group is still low, under 10%, but the number is increasing steadily. This increase is attributed to better training, motorcycles, and equipment. Many women riders polled said that control is a priority and riding on the back of a bike just wasn’t enough. In the past, women were forced to modify men’s equipment. Now, there are many women’s lines specializing in tailoring their gear to better suit women’s riding needs.  When it comes to formal safety training, women are in the lead. 58% of women riders attend training classes, compared to 44% of men. A big concern for women is the size of the bike. They don’t want to put themselves in a dangerous situation by trying to control a bike that it too large for their experience level or physical weight. Many motorcycle manufacturers have listened to this concern and answered it by building several models that are smaller and weigh less.  AMA’s sixth International Women & Motorcycling Conference will be happening July 26-29 in Carson City, Nevada. For more details about the event and women rider resources, visit http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/events/womenandmotorcycling.

Jodi’s Bio

Category : Team K and G

We love to introduce all the members on the K and G Cycles team! Now that we have completed our move to South Florida, we have begun growing again. We are proud to introduce to you our newest team member, Jodi Lovejoy.

Name: Jodi Lovejoy

What positions do you play on the K and G team? I am a Product Specialist. It is my job to prepare new product information for inclusion in our shopping cart and to get the information, photos, etc. to the correct sub-categories so our customers can easily find what they are looking for. My work entails a ton of Excel spreadsheet time and a ton of time working on the back side of the K and G Cycles shopping cart. I guess you could say I am banished forever to the cyberspace backroom and warehouse!

Where are you from? I am definitely a Florida girl. I was born near Tampa, FL and raised in Melbourne. My dad worked in the aerospace industry and was a member of the team that designed communication system for the Apollo program. That means my dad was partly responsible for getting them where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there and making sure they were able to speak to mission control. Pretty cool, I think!

Anyway, I met my husband, Rob, and we moved to Bloomington, IN where we started our family. Our son, Clay, is off to diesel mechanic school so we decided it was time to head back to Florida. My husband is from Ft Myers on one side of the state and I am from Melbourne on the other side. It was George who gave us the idea of “splitting the difference” by moving to Miami. So, here we are right on the tip.

Tell us more about your family. My husband is an amateur bodybuilder and a personal trainer. As I said, our son is at diesel mechanic’s school near Indianapolis. At age 8, he started wrenching on a Yamaha 125.

We have been motorcycle owners on and off for many years. Our first bike was a Yamaha YZ250 that we actually purchased from Team Yamaha. We nicknamed it
“The Beast”. It was definitely a powerful bike. I was afraid to ride it alone and almost fell off in the middle of a wheelie. Today, I am quite happy to enjoy admiring motorcycles more than riding them since the very first motorcycle I ever rode at age 15, I wrecked. The choice was either run it into a pond or run it into a plow. I chose the plow.

Favorite quote: Man plans, God laughs.

What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life? I’m very happy to say that I just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary! Our kid is starting his life on his own and I live in one of the greatest cities in the world. I am exactly where I want to be even though it took a long time to get here. Life is good.

What is your favorite place in the entire world? That’s easy – on a cruise ship anywhere in the Caribbean. So far, my favorite island is St. Maarten, the French side. The Dutch are very accommodating but the French didn’t seem to have a word that translated to “no”. We had an incredibly wonderful time there.

What is your favorite thing about K and G Cycles? Kyle and George are amazing! Such fantastic people to work with and great a vision for the company that just pulls you in and gets you excited.
You give it your best every day and are rewarded with great teammates and a commitment to a common goal.
