Ice Road Riders on Harleys!

Category : Fun Stuff, MC News

Too Cool not to share, here is a clip worth watching! I’d bet you’re not as cold today, on the day after Christmas, as these boys and their vintage Harleys!

From YouTube

In February 2008 W&W Cycles started to ride the Mackenzie River Ice Road between Tuktoyaktuk und Inuvik on 2 Harley Davidson ® Motorbikes. At a minus record of – 42 °C the windchill reached -60°C for the riders. The bikes (an original 48 Panhead and a 2006 Shovelhead, completely customized with parts available at W&W Cycles (wwag.com). Both bikes arrived prepared with specified liquids and studded tires and were anyway struck by the severe cold until treated in a heated – or more to say less cold – garage. The video was filmed with a Panasonic DVX 100 in a Porta Brace Polar Mitten. A wideangle lens was brought but could not be used due to small but centered crystallizing water inside the lens. The 1948 Panhead is actually displayed at the MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) in Manchester, as part of the exhibition “Culture, Customising and Harley-Davidson” (running until sept. 15th 2011) Links: wwag.com www.mosi.org.uk http://www.mosi.org.uk/whats-on/customising,-culture-harley-davidson.aspx

Another Victory – The Hard-Ball

Category : MC News

Like a two-wheeled stalker of the night, the Victory Hard-Ball owns the streets. It stretches out beneath you as you take command of the ape hangers and unleash massive Victory power.

Is it a Cruiser? Is it a Tourer?

You can’t label it. This bike refuses to conform. It makes its owns space. It’s a bad ass touring bike. It’s a bad ass cruiser. It’s whatever the #$*@!!% you want it to be. Everybody’s got baggage. The Victory Hard-Ball gives you a place to throw it and hit the road.

Color? Black. End to end. We added red pinstripes so you can find your bike in the dark of night.

Its long, low platform can carve corners and deliver long-riding comfort.

The Victory Freedom 106/6 serves up torque to shove everyday traffic into your mirrors and cruise from point A to B or wherever the you want to go.

The height-adjustable ape hangers serve up Victory Hard-Ball style and offer a fists-up salute to its little brother, the Victory High-Ball.

The new Victory Hard-Ball. Born on the wrong side of the tracks!

The Internet is Alive with Opinions Today – Biker Buildoff Results

Category : MC News

Hey Gang! Just as we do every day here at K and G Cycles, we’re keeping our finger on the pulse of current motorcycle related news. We love bringing you, what we feel are the relevant topics important to our K and G Friends.

Today we have tons of online action as people send out their opinions of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly results of the American Chopper Live Biker Build-Off.

In case you’ve been too busy to check it out. Paul Jr. and his aviation inspired, over-sized, propeller-wheeled motorcycle took first place. You’re welcome to throw your comments up here, or on our Facebook Page too. We’d love to hear what our Gang, thinks about the shenanigans of the show.

One opinion that I’d like to express today, after visiting several chat-spaces online concerning the outcome is this: Today the internet is Alive with folks talking about Motorcycles! There are comments flooding the pages of anyone who is posting this story up. Everyone has an opinion! Everyone is Expressing their opinions. And it’s all about Bikes! Hooray!

Really, I get that the title of “World’s Best Builder” is absolute ridiculousness in relation to this “competition”. But hey, I do believe that our industry, lifestyle and love of motorcycles benefits when we’re a hot topic and people are out there engaging with each other and spending time talking about their love of bikes, “the way they should be” to them.

Love the show, or hate it, it is getting publicity. And as they say, “Any publicity, is good publicity.” So thanks to Discovery, for once again, giving the masses something to love, the hard-core something to hate, and the unaware a little taste of motorcycling in their otherwise vanilla days.

No matter what bike you like best, what do you think of the overall efforts? If the title of World’s Best Custom Bike Builder is going to be based on these examples, how well do think the title fits? I was surprised at the results of the bikes. I have my own opinions, and let’s get a little discussion going to hear yours too!

There are lots of short clips of video available on Discovery’s website. If you can stand tons of commercials for little quick clips of these bikes and some of the construction process too, then you can find them all here.

Three Way Build-Off Tonight!

Category : MC News

Hey Gang! Who’s tuning in Tonight, to watch the three way build-off on American Chopper?

THE BUILD-OFF – from Discovery.com
Dec. 5, 2011 9pm
In this two-hour special, Senior, Junior and Jesse James compete in a no-holds-barred three-way build-off to determine whose bike reigns supreme. The winner — determined by viewers, in a vote immediately following the show — earns bragging rights as the best bike builder in the world.

How do you feel that this competition relates to the real-world of the current custom motorcycle scene? Is it too little, too late for these former iconic builders to bring relevant ideas to table? Or do you think it will be more of the over-the-top monstrosities that can only be treated like a real motorcycle from the trailer to the curb and back?

The stakes will be high as there will surely be the loyal fan-base and some curious riders tuning in. Surely with their TV reputations at stake, these guys will be digging deep. Will it be a hollow-victory for the winner, as the bike world has now grown appreciation for garage-built ride-able classics in bobber styles and racy euro cafe customs too?

You get to judge for yourself, help decide the winner and of course, leave your comments at their website. Chopper Live.

American Chopper Live – The Build-Off - (American Chopper Live Special) – from Discovery.com
Dec. 6, 2011 9pm

Will it be Senior, Junior or Jesse James who is crowned the winner of their ultimate three-way bike build-off? You voted. Now find out the results. Mike Catherwood hosts this live event from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.

I think there are still a lot of fans out there who loved seeing these guys bring their Choppers to mainstream America. Even though trends have evolved, some would say that the world is a more motorcycle friendly place, since the  WCC iron-crosses and OCC tee shirts showed up.

We love Women riders, They might love the Switchback

Category : MC News

Hey Gang, unless you weren’t aware, the “K” of K and G Cycles is none other than Kyle Marakas, the lovely wife of George, bike rider and co-owner of our awesome online superstore. Therefore, we have a real heart for women riders and the beauty they bring to the biker scene. A recently posted review on Women Riders Now, fully extolls the features of  the new Harley Davidson Switchback, as a very female-rider friendly machine. We’ll give you a sample of the story, then send you on over to the complete edition posted by Genevieve Schmitt on their site:

Once in a while, a motorcycle is introduced that I believe has “woman rider” written all over it. The 2012 Harley-Davidson Dyna Switchback is one of those motorcycles. Why do I think this? Because it is a purpose-built touring motorcycle designed for riders who can’t or don’t want to handle the large touring motorcycles—and that description fits the majority of women riders.

If you’ve done any research on the Switchback, you’ll find that most of its advertising focuses on the bike’s most marketable attribute: the Switchback is actually two bikes in one. First, it’s a tourer because it comes stock with a windshield and hard-sided saddlebags. But it’s also an around-town cruiser when you remove the bags and windshield, which can be done easily and quickly. When you’re ready to “switch back” to a tourer, simply reattach those accessories.

I don’t think this switcheroo feature is what will attract most women. Sure, it’s nice to have the option to remove the windshield and saddlebags when you don’t need them, but what woman doesn’t need or want a way to carry extra gear? And what woman doesn’t want a way to protect her face from the ravages of the wind? OK, I’m generalizing here, but you get what I mean. I believe the biggest appeal for women is that the Switchback is a motorcycle that’s set up for touring right from the factory and is much easier to handle and costs a lot less than Harley-Davidson’s larger touring models.

When I first sat on the Switchback, I immediately thought “mini Road King.” The image of a man and woman riding side by side popped into my head, the man on his Harley-Davidson Road King and the woman on her “Road Queen,” the Switchback. His and hers—a matched set. So for couples wanting to tour together, consider these two motorcycles. Note to Harley-Davidson: I’ll allow you to use my idea of marketing these two motorcycles together as “his and hers.” With women influencing 85 percent of households’ purchasing decisions, this would appear to be a smart marketing strategy to get more guys (your core market) on the road. You can thank me later.

Sturgis Bartenders/Hometown Cuties on FTS

Category : MC News

Sturgis is a HUGE rockin’ rally full of bikers who attend, and businesses and people on hand to serve the refreshments. Have you ever wondered about the back-story of the workers at Sturgis that are there for more than just the party? Here is a little info on a couple gals who decided to pack up and head to Sturgis last August to work at the Full Throttle Saloon. Their experiences behind the bar, plus lots of other on-stage, backstage and party central drama is coming to life on-screen on TruTV. The first episode aired Wednesday night the 30th, and according to Margie Haverland, there will be plenty of action in this season of Full Throttle Saloon.

Here is the story from their hometown paper that really explains it all:

Most people wouldn’t consider the idea of taking two weeks of vacation from work just so they can go to another job.

But that’s exactly what a pair of bartenders from the Sandtrap Sports Bar did this past August.

Margie Haverland and Lindsey Bennett spent two weeks as bartenders at the Full Throttle Saloon as part of the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.

The duo got the idea of going up to the rally from the reality series about the bar — and its work during the rally — that airs on TruTV. The series will debut its new season, featuring this year’s events, at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

It was the TV show that inspired the two girls to apply to work at the bar during the famous motorcycle event.

“I didn’t know anything about the bike scene,” Haverland said. “Lindsey and I would watch the show together while at work, and we talked about wouldn’t it be fun to work there.

“So we got our pictures and resume together and sent it in. She got hired first, and a little later, I got called.”

The show chronicles the goings on as the bar sets up several locations to serve the thousands of people who converge on the small town for a week-long celebration of motorcycles. The female bartending staff are not only charged with serving drinks, but entertain guests, including taking pictures with visitors.

“Some nights it felt like all I was doing was taking pictures,” Bennett said. “I think I smiled eight hours straight. I have never taken that many pictures.”

While the women worked, they were shadowed by camera crews, doing interviews about what was happening in and around them. They both said it was a little strange to begin with, but after a while it had became second nature having cameras constantly in their face.

But it may be Haverland who will see her story documented early on in the series, as their were problems at her bar.

“I was at the Underbridge bar, right by the stage where they did the midget wrestling shows, and a lot of the motorcycles would be down there,” she said. “But I got there to start, and the bar wasn’t built. They were still hanging electrical and there was no water hooked up yet. I was talking to the boss, Mike Ballard, and was all dressed and ready to go for five hours, and the bar itself was not set up.”

The experience was different for Bennett, who was shifted to various locations throughout her stay.

“I didn’t have any drama,” she said. “Everything with me was smooth. No crazy, dramatic scenes. Everyone was really chill.”

It’s one thing that both agree upon, the people at the event were all cordial, having a good time not looking to cause trouble.

Haverland came home after 10 days because she was home sick, and made enough money to pay for her trip. Bennett stayed the entire two-week schedule and made a little more than she put into the trip.

But most of all, they came home with good vacation stories.

“I got to meet a lot of neat people, and the film crew and a lot of neat bikes,” Haverland said.

“Everyone was super nice, and in a good mood,” Bennett said. “There were never any fights. You cculd tell people were on vacation. I got to meet people from all over the country, and I’m still friends with three of the other bartenders.”
