Trying not to ogle the Bikes, while Tying the Knot

Category : Fun Stuff

What were you doing on 11-11-11? I’m not sure if many riders out there took this unique occasion to visit their favorite strip of asphalt, but in Ohio there were at least four couples who mixed up their love of Harleys with eternal love.

At Signature Harley-Davidson in Perrysburg, Ohio a special ceremony was set up by their marketing and social media dept, where they offered to host marriage ceremonies on 11-11-11 in the dealership, using the isle between the bikes as, well, The Isle!

The showroom was used for a similar ceremony in 2009 and they’ve been planning on repeating it ever since.

There were 11 couples signed up, and 4 took the leap. 3 of the couples were renewing their vowes among the chrome and pinstripes. One lucky bride and groom actually tied the knot.

The pairs, most casually dressed in pants and Harley-Davidson shirts, marched solemnly through the center of the store between rows of glistening motorcycles and past a few dozen relatives and friends.

“Good relationships never stop growing. Like good wine, they grow better with age,” Ms. Rodgers, the wedding pastor, told them, as she began the service. “Marriage is a precious gift.”

It was a short but unforgettable occasion for Julie Hogan and Bob Hayes, Jr., both 42, of Genoa, who said they decided to marry at the Harley store because they wanted to do something different. Accompanying them were their four children, aged between 5 and 16, all dressed in matching purple and black.

During the service, Mr. Hayes faltered when asked to say his vows, the emotion almost too much for him.

“It just came over me,” he said afterward. “I was between a laugh and a cry.”

Renewing their vows were Kathy and Russ Nino, of Northwood; Tracey and Brent Tobert, of Toledo, and Jill and Greg Litten, of Holland.

Mrs. Tobert said she asked her husband to take part because she thought it would be something fun and memorable, and because he loves Harley-Davidsons.

Mr. and Mrs. Bobby and Julie Hayes walk down the motorcycle-lined aisle trailed by her son, Mason Hogan after getting after getting married at Signature Harley Davidson in Perrysburg on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.
The Hayes got married and several other couples renewed their vows in a ceremony on the date, 11/11/11, which is considered a lucky day for weddings.

“I had to say, ‘Quit looking at the bikes!’ ” Mrs. Tobert, 42, said, smiling as she recounted the moment in the service when the couples were supposed to gaze into each other’s eyes.

In Honor of Veterans Day

Category : MC News

Our K and G friends and family wish today to pay homage and respect to the every day heroes that serve our country in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The picture I’ve chosen to feature today was shot in the Rocky Mountains on the eastern side of the Million Dollar Highway, north of Durango, Colorado. The Blackhawk air cleaner belongs to a rider I’ll probably never know. But I had to shoot the pic while I was on that mountain top, and instantly reminded of my cousin. He’s a National Guard Blackhawk Pilot, and today, right now, he’s away from his family and serving us to protect our freedom.

I’ve seen his children grow while he was on the other side of the world, and his wife handling the battles on our soil, while he handles them on sand. He is just one of the many out there, following his calling, fulfilling his duty.

Love ya YB!

Thank You, to ALL past and present and those who will take that step in the future to make a difference as only a U.S. Soldier can do, With Our Love and Gratitude.

Veterans Day, honors ALL American veterans, both living and dead. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country. November 11 of each year is the day that we ensure veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made in the lives to keep our country free.

But why does this holiday land on November 11?

The idea of honoring US soldiers in November reaches back to the First World War, though we didn’t call it Veterans Day back then.

American troops made significant headway in 1918, rebuffing a German offensive along the western front and moving Allied forces deeper into enemy territory. By November, Germany had had enough. It agreed to a cease-fire, signing the official armistice at 5 a.m. on November 11. The treaty took effect six hours later. On the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” as the saying goes, the world knew peace once again.

The “War to End All Wars” had ended. For the next 36 years, America remembered November 11 as Armistice Day.

However, as we all know, war broke out again in 1939. A new generation of Americans risked their lives in World War II and the Korean War. By 1954, the name Armistice Day didn’t sound right anymore. The scope felt too narrow. So Congress swapped out “Armistice” in favor of a word that could honor all of America’s veterans, and Veterans Day was born.

But remember Armistice Day this year. Why? For the first time, this holiday has landed on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – of the eleventh year. That’s right, 11-11-11.

SOA – “Kiss” episode in-depth by Kevin Plummer

Category : MC News

Alright SOA fans! Another stellar show update is up for debate here on vtwinmotorcycle blog. Our resident Sons expert, Kevin Plummer is throwing his well-informed opinion out there. What do you think of the current events unfolding on the show?? We’d love to hear from you too! Enjoy the “Kiss” episode recap and review by our own Kevin Plummer!

I don’t know about you, but this week I was looking for an epic showdown due to the death of Piney in last week’s episode.  I figured not only would we have a large showdown between Jax and Clay but between the whole of the entire club.  However not so fast as Kurt Sutter just wanted to toy with us a little more, as he pulled us more and more into the story of what is around the next corner for this MC club.  I feel that the episode titled “Kiss” could be considered something of a turning point for the character of Jax Teller.   So many times we’ve witnessed his character as the gun-wielding figure in black, the solider for the Sons who’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect his club. But this week, Jax took the initiative, since no one else really would, to stand up and try to prevent unnecessary violence or drastic action being taken. It was really his time to shine as the potential future leader of SAMCRO. Though he claims to want out, I just don’t see that getting to happen even when the cartel situation is cleared up (which took a surprising turn with the Lobo scenario as one would have assumed that it would have been more like a Sons v. Galindo turn of events not something that allowed the Galindo cartel to continue to work with the club).

Lobo Sonora problem remains at the forefront this week when it turns out that Laroy, the leader of the Niners, has joined forces with the Lobos in order to try and gain a foothold on selling cocaine in the area. Yeah, start a war with a Mexican cartel and see how long your head remains attached to the rest of your body. But this scenario, in addition to the ongoing Juice problem, gave Jax a few chances to truly shine in a leadership position in a way that Clay no longer can.  It was nice to see that Bobby himself took notice of the true leadership that Jax brings to the club when he stepped in to prevent Galindo cartel member Luis from creating a firing squad against the Niners after an ambush occurred.  Jax also took the Juice situation into his own hands when Chibs came to him to not only explain Juice’s problems, but to step in and take responsibility for him in this fragile state. It was good to see Jax give Juice another chance, but it’s hard to see it ending well ultimately as his still being in the club means he’s still of value to the Feds for their growing ever growing case against SAMCRO and all of their affiliates.

I feel this season’s irony is that SAMCRO are working so hard to stay alive against the present threat of what the drug business has gotten them into, yet arguably the largest threat yet to the organization is the Feds who are working behind the scenes to bring them down with the club, and without Unser, or someone within the police force to warn them of this threat, when it does hit they will be blindsided by the news of this new threat.  As well, I hope Kurt Sutter’s plans are not to leave us like last season’s finale to have the Feds throw the Sons in to prison where they will end up serving real (we’re talking years not months) prison time.  It was a great moment of desperation to watch Juice react to the extent of what the Feds are building up against his brothers in the club and when he flipped out on Roosevelt.

And while the “puppet master” behind the scenes Potter was not able to get Juice to cooperate as he wanted, he then had to go to plan B and start pushing Otto again?  The good thing for Potter was his manipulative magic on Juice seemed to be working, by offering him a deal of sorts, assuring him only a few members of the sons would pay for their crimes, but that the club could continue to exist.   I don’t know about you, but I feel unless Juice got this in writing, which I doubt he did, I have no doubt in my mind that Potter happily will renege on his word when he gets what he wants.

Well in this week’s episode we were able to watch as Clay and Gemma shared yet another secret to their very large collection of deceit.  As we seen as Gemma suspected something in last week’s episode as she spoke with Clay and he told her that he was staying at the Clubhouse for the night, and she asked where he was, and he said he was at the clubhouse, when in fact she knew he was lying, as she was at the clubhouse, and Clay was not.  So when Opie had not heard from his father, and Gemma was not able to call Piney on his landline phone, she felt she needed to investigate and visit the cabin.  This is when Gemma’s suspicions are correct, as she stumbled upon Piney’s body lying dead in the middle of the cabin.  After she got angry with Piney for not listening to her, and shed a few tears, she contacted  Unser then used her womanly ways to convince Unser to help keep it under wraps the best he can in terms of it not coming back on the club or Clay.   While Gemma seems to be blinded by love, it was disappointing to see the way Gemma chose to handle this situation, but it will only be time before she realizes that she can’t control, or trust the promises that Clay makes as we watched him make what could turn out to be the biggest phone call in the show’s history.  In fact it was only seconds after Gemma left that Clay reached into his pocket and got that phone out and dialed the only phone number stored into the throw away cell phone the Cartel provided him.  I am beginning to wonder what it will take to stop Clay’s destruction of his club and the people around him, and maybe it is only a bullet between the eyes.

We had been provided a sneak peek into next week’s show that Jax and Tara’s trip to Oregon, this looks like it has some big action going down in Oregon; I can only hope the local police departments are ready.  I am sure that this episode will only serve as yet another chance to move the chess pieces around the board, and in hopes things all work out in the end.  However we only have just a few moves left for this season,  I hope we start to see Clay have some consequences for his actions.  Though watching this show since the beginning, I do have a somewhat jaded personal theory of my own that nothing will change except for maybe Jax leaving the club for a short time, where he will then be thrusted back in maybe next season, while we don’t want this to happen we all know this is a TV show, and this is how the writers and producers work their shows.  But only Kurt Sutter knows for sure, and we will just have to keep watching to see what happens…

Amazing auction of amazing motorcycles and more – the Lee Hartung Collection

Category : MC News

The Lee Roy Hartung Collection will be offered for sale by Auctions America by RM in partnership with RM Auctions during a multi-day sale in Glenview, Illinois, November 3-5, 2011.

The Hartung Collection was amassed over five decades by the late Mr. Lee Roy Hartung for display in his private museum. From motor cars to motorcycles, bicycles, license plates and other vintage memorabilia, the collection is comprised of items Hartung acquired locally, many from within a 15-mile radius of his Glenview location.

Following his passing in May 2011, Hartung’s collection will be offered without reserve in November, presenting a range of ownership opportunities for those looking to continue his legacy. In fact, in Lee Roy’s own words and sentiments, he always viewed himself as a caretaker to the items in his collection, and he anticipated its dispersal to appreciative collectors greatly.

“Lee Roy Hartung was the ultimate collector with an incredible passion for history and a remarkable eye for originality,” says Rob Myers, Chairman & Founder, RM Auctions and Auctions America by RM.

The Lee Roy Hartung Motorcycle Collection is a major component and focus of the collection. As an avid motorcycle enthusiast, Lee Roy collected as many original motor bikes and parts as regionally available. Impressively, a large number of the motorcycles do turn over, and some do in fact now start and run, a testament to their pure originality and untouched condition. Many of the bikes even still retain their original paint and components, having never been restored both cosmetically or mechanically.

Lots of great YouTube videos of the unpacking of these awesome motorycles can be found at YouTube.com. The guys at Auction America have done a really nice job with these fun to watch videos!

Harley v. Indian – The Great Race in America for 2012

Category : MC News

Harley and Indian Motorcycles built in 1965 and older are invited to participate in The Great Race. This event revives the legendary wars between these two classic American bike brands. The Harleys won 2011 and now the Indians are out for revenge in 2012!

For twenty years Harley & Indian enthusiasts in Australia have been recreating the rivalry that was so much a part of motorcycling in the Twenties, Thirties, and Forties of the last century.
In 2011, we brought that Rivalry home to America where the bikes were built! The Great Indian V Harley Race of 2011 was a success.

For 2012 the Great Race will be based in Oakhurst California, right on the doorstep to Yosemite. We have planned rides through the California Gold Country, Yosemite, and the surrounding area.
During the ride we will have checkpoints, timed mileage sections and other challenges. At each checkpoint the rider will be earning points for his brand of motorcycle. At the end of our event we will gather for a banquet feast and crown the race victor and who will receive bragging rights for the next year, as the winner of the great race.

Find out all the details at the website http://www.indianvharley.com/

This video below is a little dated, but shows the wonderful camaraderie and playful “friendliness” between the riders of both brands. It’s worth checking out!
